Exciting Upgrades at Glenorchy War Memorial Pool
What to look forward to at our 1 October opening!
As the warmer months approach, Glenorchy War Memorial Pool is getting ready to welcome the community back into our newly renovated facility. We are excited to announce a series of significant upgrades designed to improve accessibility, comfort, and the overall guest experience.
The pool has undergone major renovations ahead of the reopening on 1 October 2026. The works began in August 2025 with a $6.5 million budget, $5 million from a state government grant, and a further $1.5 million from the council. This budget has been used to upgrade the pool to ensure it is a safe and comfortable space for everyone in the community to enjoy.
New ramp entry to 50m pool
One of the most significant additions to the pool is a new gradual ramp entry with handrails leading into the 50-metre outdoor pool. This feature provides a safer and more convenient way for visitors to enter and exit the water, particularly for older adults, people recovering from injury, families with young children, and those who may have mobility challenges.
The ramp entry helps make aquatic recreation more accessible, ensuring more members of our community can enjoy the many benefits of swimming and water-based exercise with confidence and comfort.
A more comfortable swimming experience
The 50-metre outdoor pool is also now heated to a comfortable 26 – 28 degrees, making swimming more enjoyable throughout the season.
Whether you’re completing laps for fitness, participating in a swimming program, or enjoying a recreational swim with friends and family, the warmer water temperature provides added comfort and encourages greater use of the facility.
Upgrades to the change room facilities
We are proud to announce the new change room upgrades to ensure a more comfortable experience for our guests.
A Changing Places pod is now also available at the facility, providing accessible and dignified amenities for those in our community may require additional space and specialised equipment. The addition of this facility is an important step in ensuring that Glenorchy War Memorial Pool is accessible to a broader range of community members. It enables individuals and families who may previously have faced barriers to participation to enjoy the pool.
Creating a welcoming environment
Guests will notice the newly transformed venue entry area. The entrance has been renovated and refurbished to provide a more modern, welcoming, and user-friendly experience from the moment you arrive. The refreshed space improves the overall flow and functionality of the venue, creating a more enjoyable experience for everyone visiting the pool.
